Help Others Learn How To Read
Are your favorite books all shelved and unused? Would you like to bring a bit of joy to other kids and students? Send or personally bring your books to one of our Bookfeeding Projects of your choice!
Sending or bringing your books is a great way to directly empower children through education. This easy and rewarding task can have a profound and lasting impact on our small library communities!
We no longer collect book donations, as it is a costly and inefficient process for a small NGO like ours. Instead, we prefer to purchase books locally, supporting both the local economy and native languages.
Your books can still help Bookfeeding!
Just choose one of the following 4 ways to bring books to a library:
1. Send The Books Directly To A Library
You can still send the books directly to the library and help us to reduce shipping costs and to increase the libraries choice of books. Just follow the instructions below:
1. Choose the right books
Choose books that you think will be appropriate for the project. Books to include are:
educational and fictional resources for children aged 2-18 years, preferably children books
story books
novels
language textbooks
encyclopaedias
Novels and books for adults are also welcome
We also welcome books for older readers, especially books focusing on agriculture, bee-keeping, small business or other useful technical and life skills
PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE any books of a religious, political, erotic or magical nature due to cultural differences.
2. Pack them up
All you need is a proper carton box, a marker, scissors and parcel tape.
Choose which project you want to support with your books and write their address in CAPITAL LETTERS on the box. Each library has its address written on their profile. Just click on our libraries and make your pick. Add a phone number for the library - if you don’t find it on our website contact us.
3. Add this text
HUMANITARIAN AID FROM (insert your country). NO COMMERCIAL VALUE. NOT FOR RESALE. Feel free to add a nice personal message and a return address! The children will be more than happy to send you a Thank You postcard!
4. Send your package
Bring your package to the post office and send it via surface mail. Make sure the postal service knows it is PRINTED MATERIALS as this usually converts to a cheaper rate. Some post offices send printed materials in cotton bags which are then transported by ship. The shipment can take up to a few months but it is less expensive.
When sending books to one of our libraries, please contact us and let us know! This way we can make sure the books are well received and you are informed!
2. Donate an entire pallet of books to a library
There are more efficient NGOs and charities focusing solely on collecting books and shipping them to schools, libraries and community centers in need. One such organisation that is happy to send books directly to our libraries is Books2Africa: https://books2africa.org/requestbooks/
It costs about 600 EUR for one pallet to be shipped to our libraries. That is 1000 books - carefully selected, packed and delivered to our library doorsteps.
If you want to support us with books, this is an amazing way to do it!
You just choose a bookfeeding library and follow the steps on Books2Africa website.
Contact us if you would like to know from us which libraries can currently benefit the most from more books or which type of books can help the community you have chosen the most.
3. Want to Make a Big Impact? Start Your Own Book Collection!
Why not take the initiative and create your own book collection point? Spread the word among your family, friends, colleagues, or classmates—many people have great books they’d love to donate! You can set up collection boxes in local libraries, kindergartens, or schools and share the story of Bookfeeding. In the past, some schools even organized book drives as part of their geography lessons about Africa—so get creative and make it your own!
Once your collection is up and running, we are happy to share the details on our social media! This will help even more people find out about your initiative and contribute by donating books or funds for shipping.
Next, reach out to shipping companies in your area. Many companies already transporting goods to Africa might have extra space in their containers, allowing you to send books at a reduced cost—or even for free! If you can’t find a willing shipping partner, don’t worry—get a quote and organize a fundraiser. The cost of sending a pallet of books is often not much more than shipping a few boxes, yet the impact can be enormous!
By taking action, you can bring books directly into the hands of those who need them most. Your efforts can transform lives—so why not start today?
4. Traveling to Africa, India or Brazil? Make a Difference!
If you're visiting Africa or another place where a Bookfeeding library is located, why not bring along some books and make a real impact? Organizing a small book collection before your trip can help provide much-needed resources for local libraries and communities. Even if you don’t have time to volunteer, you can still make a difference by dropping off the books at one of our libraries.
No time to visit a library? No problem! Reach out to us, and we can arrange for locals to pick up the books directly from the airport. Every book counts, and your effort — big or small — can change lives. Let’s turn your journey into an opportunity to share knowledge and empower communities!
We are present in 13 countries in Africa, in India and Brazil - plenty to choose from!
